Online Market Systems Development Course: 
​Principles, Practices, & cases

This interactive course can be registered for as an optional extra, and completed prior to the Symposium.  The course prepares participants for the Symposium by covering market systems concepts and case studies, and allows more active participation, deeper dialogues, and more significant contributions among participants. The course features select modules from the www.MarketSystemAccelerator.org curriculum. The course components that have been selected for the Symposium take approximately twelve hours to complete, through interaction with a series of individual modules of 20 - 40 min each. The course commences on March 1st, 2020, and modules can be completed at your own pace, prior to the Symposium. You will receive a welcome email on March 1st which introduces you to the course.  The course does not substitute for any of the in-person training workshops, and can be registered for, in addition to the training courses.

​Facilitators

Margie Brand is the founder and director of EcoVentures International, an organization specializing in sustainable market systems development. She supports practitioners and donors in strategic planning and facilitation, intervention design and implementation, and capacity building and training. Ms. Brand has developed market systems development, value chain, enterprise, microfinance, and entrepreneurship, and workforce development curricula and tools that have been translated into over 15 languages and used in over 35 countries. Ms. Brand has, as part of teams, developed many of the frameworks governing development of value chains, market systems, vulnerable populations, livelihoods, and youth development. She has designed and managed several large development programs, and has worked in over 20 countries in Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe, with a focus on her home continent of Africa

Mike Field has over 25 years of designing, assessing, implementing and training on systems based approaches to market, educational, health and enabling environment challenges. Through his work, Mr. Field has played a key role in setting learning and research agendas in the field of systems approaches.  He is currently a Senior Technical Advisor at EcoVentures International.  Previously, Mr. Field led USAID’s Agricultural Value Chain project in Bangladesh.  Other recent experience includes advising and training donor and project staff in Mozambique, Kenya, Thailand, Nigeria, Stockholm and Zimbabwe on applying systems concepts to private sector, resilience, and enabling environment challenges.  Mr. Field continues to provide guidance on improved practice on systems approaches via various learning platforms

Logistics

This selection is an online learning course, administered from a distance and completed at your own pace. The course will begin on March 1, 2020, and remain open through the end of April. The course components will take approximately twelve hours to complete, through interaction with a series of individual modules of 20 - 40 min each. You will receive a welcome email on March 1 containing your login instructions and platform tutorial.

EcoVentures International (EVI) introduces core approaches to market systems development implementation through high impact learning methodologies to share effective practice and practical cases from the field. For many market systems development teams across the globe (such as value chain, M4P, and other private sector development project and organizational teams), there is an urgent need for practical market systems development training. EVI has created a range of multimedia tools that can be used to change behavior and build capacity around effective market facilitation strategies and implementation of market systems approaches.
